Living with lupus is hard but not a death sentence. Felicia defied many odds. Among them…

In the midst of this horrible nightmare, I met my wonderful husband and we have an amazing thoughtful little boy named Jerry. He is my biggest reason for trying to outlive lupus.

I thought lupus had robbed me of everything until I got pregnant. Pregnancy is one of the things they tell you is out of the question.

Lupus pregnancies are high risk because there is an increased risk of miscarriage, premature delivery and heart problems with the baby. Luckily for me, I was able to overcome these odds and deliver a premature but healthy baby, the old fashioned way. I am forever grateful for this privilege to be called mommy. And that is why I get up everyday prepared to fight, because I’m someone’s hero, someone’s mommy. Lupus has to wait, today I’ve got to live.

Meeting and marrying someone who could cope with the challenges of my life was a Godsend. My husband Joe, has been supportive and patient with my lupus diagnosis, my complications, my shortcomings. We married simply, without flair and our life has been thus, simple and focused on what’s important, loving each other and our son. This is truly a blessing.

Lift-someone-upLupus affects every aspect of your life. Being married to someone like me with lupus, requires patience. Your spouse is your caregiver, doctor, nurse, whatever you need. It does put a strain on the relationship, but so far we have made it work. I think having that support system helps make the day to day challenges a little easier.
